Field Trips to Our Farm

Step into farm life

Field trips at Sunrise CFC follow a tour-like, interactive and experiential approach around the farm, beginning at the Pavilion. Groups may arrive early to be prepared and adjusted to the farm environment before activities begin. Large classes may be split into two groups, or four groups, and smaller groups may stay together for the duration of the time. Groups all begin together, and may then be separated into smaller groups before moving off for different experiences.

Experience how our farm is designed as a model of a sustainable family farm. Discover the timeless cycle of growing food, caring for animals, and enriching the soil, just as families did 100 to 200 years ago. See how every part of the farm worked together in partnership with the land to provide food, transportation, and the resources needed to thrive.

Discuss the deep connection between people and land

Your tour will be led by our farm Mentors, who work in partnership with the land and animals every day. Long ago, children learned by working alongside their family mentors and they played an essential role in keeping the family farm running. You will get to experience some of those important jobs for yourself.

Get up and close with our partners: the horses.

Horses and humans have been partners for a very very long time and the bond between the two makes both better, stronger, faster and smarter!

Horses teach us the CRAFTS of partnerships:

Communication begins with body language. Horses respond to clear, gentle cues which we give with bodily pressure as we ride. We communicate with our bodies rather than words.

Respect means treating horses with kindness and never causing fear or harm.

Acknowledgment comes when we reward the right response by releasing pressure, helping the horse understand it has done well.

Friendship grows through grooming and spending time together. Just like people, horses build friendships through care and trust.

Trust is built through consistency, patience, and clear boundaries, giving both horse and human the confidence to work together.

You will get a chance to ride on a horse and experience the partnership yourself!

Build confidence and trust with small animals

Animals teach kindness, patience, confidence, and calm. To a chicken or rabbit, even a small child can seem like a giant. With guidance from our mentors, children learn how gentle movements and calm behavior build trust. They'll also discover how people and animals have long worked in partnership, each helping the other thrive on a sustainable farm.

Interested in scheduling a field trip?

We typically offer field trips on weekdays from 10am -12:30pm.

Please schedule at least 1 month in advance so that we can guarantee availability.

We will not be offering field trips during the summer months when summer camps are happening!

$50 deposit required at time of scheduling

$150 for up to 10 participants. $15 per each additional participant. Adults are not counted as participants unless they would like to horseback ride.

In the event of inclement weather we will reschedule your field trip for a different date.
